These small plein air paintings are made on location, working directly into changing light, weather, and movement. They are field works — moments of attention — painted quickly and instinctively in response to place.

Rather than being preparatory sketches in a traditional sense, they function as a way of staying both physically and visually engaged with the landscape. They form the starting point for later studio paintings, which are developed more slowly from memory, reflection, and accumulated experience.

Field Works are released in small groups throughout the year.
